Artist's Comments

The second painting finished, finally!

I used some wine goblets my mother had laying around and an old tye-dye t-shirt I made when I was in sixth grade.

The project is based on the idea of abstraction through representation. The goal was to use the artist Janet Fish (ex: [link] ) as basis to create an abstract piece using reflective and transparent objects and refracted light. Our instructor advised us to choose colored cloths that would reflect into the object. She wanted the space to flatten into an abstract shapes with clean color, and using pallet knives to get patches of color.

Even considering this was a highly structured project, I really enjoyed this piece. :aww: I chose the bright cloth (shirt) so that the bold colors alone would make the picture plane flatten, and I intentionally overlapped the round shapes of the rims and bases with the edge of the picture plane to enhance this.

I'm extremely happy with this one :aww:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave where you arrive safely in a beautiful and well preserved body. I want to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body worn out, and screaming "HOT DAMN what a ride!"

I can really see how hard you'd have to work!
This is honestly fab :)

Hey! I saw that in Hamilton for the longest time during the spring semester! I didn't know that one was yours! I love all the color variations in it! :)

:giggle: yes ma'am it is! It's one of my favorites so far :aww: I wanted to see how far I could push the bright color in the reflective glass assignment we had in prof Burke's class, so I picked out my tie-dye tshirt as the base cloth. I think it turned out really well :D

Again, so many colors! Glass is really hard to do, and it looks like you pulled it off wonderfully. *Adds to faves*
